Compare household contents insurance
To compare household contents insurance properly, fix your living space, perils and compensation limits first, then check policies in the Verivox calculator.
Before you start your comparison, decide which risks and which people need to be covered. Then compare not just the premium but also the terms, limits and excess.
Have this ready before you compare
Answer the risk questions fully and truthfully. If you are unsure about previous claims, usage or existing contracts, check your documents or get professional advice.
- Sum insured or waiver of the underinsurance clause
- Check natural hazards (Elementarschäden) separately
- Bicycles and cover away from home
- Limits for valuables and compensation
Verivox comparison tool, clear roles
The comparison tool on this page is provided by Verivox, an insurance broker under § 34d of the German Trade Regulation Act (GewO). Schutz-Guenstiger only embeds the tool. We do not give advice, do not broker contracts and play no part in concluding a contract. Verivox decides which tariffs are shown and in what order. Not all insurers on the market are included in the comparison.
Frequently asked questions
How does household contents insurance differ from buildings insurance?
Household contents insurance (Hausrat) generally covers the movable items in your household; buildings insurance (Wohngebäude) covers the building and its insured fixed parts. In borderline cases, the terms decide. As an owner, it can therefore make sense to review both contracts.
Which extras should I check separately when comparing contents policies?
Check, for example, bicycle theft, limits for valuables and natural hazards cover explicitly, one by one. Do not just compare whether an add-on is mentioned; compare the compensation limits, excess and exclusions as well.
What do I need for the household contents comparison?
Have your living space, postcode, details of the building, security features and previous claims to hand. Think in advance about which add-ons you need, such as natural hazards, bicycle theft or higher limits for valuables. That way you compare policies with similar cover rather than just prices.
Why do premiums vary so much?
Differences arise from, among other things, where you live, your living space, the perils chosen, the excess and compensation limits. Waiving the underinsurance clause and how gross negligence is handled also have an effect. So compare the terms first, then the price.
