Compare buildings insurance
Line up building data, perils and natural hazards cover consistently across quotes before comparing buildings insurance premiums side by side.
Before you start your comparison, decide which risks and which people need to be covered. Then compare not just the premium but also the terms, limits and excess.
Have this ready before you compare
Answer the risk questions fully and truthfully. If you are unsure about previous claims, usage or existing contracts, check your documents or get professional advice.
- Indexed rebuild value (gleitender Neuwert) and correct building data
- Include natural hazards (Elementargefahren) explicitly
- Drainage pipes and gross negligence
- Report conversions and changes of use
Verivox comparison tool, clear roles
The comparison tool on this page is provided by Verivox, an insurance broker under § 34d of the German Trade Regulation Act (GewO). Schutz-Guenstiger only embeds the tool. We do not give advice, do not broker contracts and play no part in concluding a contract. Verivox decides which tariffs are shown and in what order. Not all insurers on the market are included in the comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Why do the year of construction and renovations matter when comparing buildings insurance?
Condition and fittings affect the risk assessment. Enter the requested details on the roof, pipes, heating and renovations identically and completely for every offer. Keep your documents to hand rather than assuming a modernisation you cannot prove.
How do I compare excesses for natural hazard damage?
Check whether a fixed amount, a percentage or a combination applies. Note the minimum and maximum amounts as well as the insured perils. The same annual premium does not mean the same cover if the excess differs.
What data do I need for the comparison?
You should have to hand the year of construction, living space, type of construction and roof shape, type of use, features and fittings, and details of previous damage and renovations. This data determines the premium and acceptance and must be correct. You should report later conversions or changes of use to the insurer.
Why does natural hazards cover matter in the comparison?
Without the natural hazards add-on (Elementarbaustein), flooding, heavy rain, sewage backflow and similar events generally remain uncovered. Because such damage to a building can be very expensive, the add-on significantly changes how meaningful a price comparison is. So compare policies consistently with natural hazards cover wherever possible.
