Compare car insurance

Comparing car insurance only works if named drivers, annual mileage and excess are set identically across quotes, so the premiums are actually comparable.

Frequently asked questions

Why do named drivers and annual mileage have to be correct in a car insurance comparison?

Both details affect how the premium is calculated and the agreed conditions of use. Compare offers using the same realistic details, and report later changes as required by your contract terms. A lower price based on inaccurate details is not a saving you can rely on.

What does an approved repairer clause mean in car insurance?

With an approved repairer clause (Werkstattbindung), the insurer directs certain comprehensive repairs to its partner garages. Check the exceptions and the possible consequences of choosing your own garage in advance. If the car is leased or financed, the requirements of that vehicle contract must also be taken into account.

When can I switch car insurance?

If your contract runs to the end of the year, as is usual, 30 November is the standard deadline for regular cancellation with effect from 1 January. After a premium increase or a claim, there is often a special right to cancel. A new vehicle can be insured with any insurer you choose, regardless of your existing contract. What counts is always the expiry date stated in your contract.

What belongs in a fair car insurance comparison?

Named drivers, annual mileage, parking location, excess, approved repairer clause and no-claims class must be set the same in all offers. Also check add-ons such as no-claims protection, new-for-old replacement and breakdown cover (Schutzbrief). Only then does a difference in premium really mean something.
