Compare pet owner liability insurance
Fix the sum insured, cover for third-party minders and protection abroad first, then compare pet owner liability premiums side by side in the calculator.
Before you start your comparison, decide which risks and which people need to be covered. Then compare not just the premium but also the terms, limits and excess.

Verivox comparison tool, clear roles
The comparison tool on this page is provided by Verivox, an insurance broker under § 34d of the German Trade Regulation Act (GewO). Schutz-Guenstiger only embeds the tool. We do not give advice, do not broker contracts and play no part in concluding a contract. Verivox decides which tariffs are shown and in what order. Not all insurers on the market are included in the comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Which details about the animal must match across the offers I compare?
Use the same details about the type of animal, the number of animals and the characteristics asked for in all offers. Check whether special uses, people who help look after the animal or several animals are included. Incomplete details can distort a comparison that looks cheap.
Does pet owner liability insurance also pay vet bills for my own animal?
It basically protects you against insured liability claims from other people. Treatment of your own animal is a different risk and is not covered simply because you have this policy. Separate pet health or surgery insurance is an option for that.
What affects the premium for pet owner liability insurance?
The main factors are the type of animal, breed, use, federal state, the chosen sum insured and any excess. For horses, it also matters whether other riders or horse-drawn vehicles are to be included. So only compare policies with the same cover.
Should third-party minders be covered?
If friends, neighbours or a pet sitter regularly look after your animal, including third-party minders (Fremdhüter) usually makes sense. Without this add-on, cover for damage caused while the animal is in someone else's care can be disputed. Also check whether professional care is included.
